Travelling is often a fierce and unwavering passion for some. They enjoy the thrill of seeing a new location, visiting a different country, or indulging in a new culture. Some people have a bucket list that they like to tick off as and when they visit one of those dream destinations. A bucket list is a pretty common thing to have these days, filled not only with travel ideas but also any experience, from eating in a Michelin starred restaurant through to swimming with dolphins. However, if we are honest, many bucket lists can be quite generic and it seems that people are lacking imagination when it comes to devising their own.
Travel can be a way of inspiration for all of us in some way. Empowering us to do more with our lives and live every moment to the full. Perhaps even offering light bulb moments for work and career, or just inspiring us to do better or be better. Often travelling to some countries can help you gain a little perspective on your own life. Which is why I thought I would share with you some of the bucket-list worthy destinations that are full of inspiration. Perhaps one of these will make it on your list.
Take a PADI course on Koh Tao.
Koh Tao is honestly the mot BEA-utiful (hope you got the reference) island I have ever visited. The small Thai island in the Gulf of Thailand is next to two other larger ones – the more populous Koh Samui and Koh Phangan. Koh Tao is a divers paradise; there are many coves and bays around the island that contain stunning coral reefs and sea life. unfortunately, some of this is damaged due to tourism, however, many are still amazing to swim through. I stayed in a hotel in Tanote Bay, when you swam into the water you were instantly surrounded by hundreds of fish, it was so memorable. Finding a PADI course on this island is easy and a lot cheaper than you would pay in a western country.
Visit the city of angels
If you are after inspiration then look no further than the film capital of the world, Los Angeles. This city in California is a great place to visit. Not only do you have the famous movie studio tours, the spectacular Hollywood sign and shopping to die for on Rodeo Drive, but there are other places in LA that can often be overlooked, for instance, The Griffith Observatory (pictured) provides stunning views of the city and will remind gamers of GTA V! This is definitely a destination filled with inspiration and glamour. The streets are filled with people who have a dream and are reaching out to achieve their goals.
Take an adventure down under
Australia is often on a bucket list, there is no denying that fact, however, you will normally spot the usual suspects of swimming in the Great Barrier Reef and visiting the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Of course, inspiring experiences, but what else can Australia offer? I thought it was worth telling you about some of the other outstanding sights to witness down under like Ayers Rock, driving the Great Ocean Road and even visiting some of the other cities that are in Australia like Perth or Melbourne.
Visit the coolest waterfalls, in the desert!
Located in the Grand Canyon in Arizona, Havasu Falls is in a creek in the Territory of the Havasupai Tribe. The beautiful turquoise waterfalls are at the end of a long 10-mile hike through the red rocks and rivers of the area. You need to book permits in advance online in order to visit. The waterfalls are truly stunning though and are well worth it after the long trek. Camping is available in the area in order to set up base and explore the many other waterfalls in the area!
Visit one of nature’s spectacular light shows
There is nothing quite as inspiring as witnessing nature at it’s finest, and a great way to do that is to head north, very north, and witness the Northern Lights. These can be seen by a few different countries such as Finland and Iceland, but capturing them is a moment you will never forget.
Bucket lists are often something we just devise in our heads, but actually, the process behind them means that often we are needing some extra motivation and inspiration in our lives. Being inspired to try new things and experiences, feeling empowered to actually make that happen. In the end, making memories that will last a lifetime.
Really enjoyed reading this post!!! We have just spent 8 months travelling around the world trying to tick off as many of our travel bucket list items as possible! We took a roadtrip along the Great Ocean Road in Australia as well, visited LA and did lots of snorkelling in the Philippines (which is also a great place to get PADI certified) We really wanted to visit the waterfalls in the Grand Canyon but didn’t make it this time so they are still on our travel bucket list! We wrote a blog about our adventures – check it out http://www.the30somethingbackpackers.com
Wow, sounds like a great adventure! I’m sure you could write about some inspirational trave destinations!
Impressive and compelling ! I’m going to add all of them on my bucket list right now !
I bet your bucket list is very long!
It actually gets longer and longer every day !
What a great post, some really cool places I’ll have to check out so thanks!
Great! Havasu is my favourite!
Wonderful list! Just be sure to get plenty of rest during your travels, otherwise you will miss half of the fun due to jet lag.
Yup, a good nap never hurt anybody!
Great post! Somehow WordPress had me unfollowing you, so I’ve missed a ton of your posts. Good for you to be able to travel so much. There are so many great places to see.
That’s worrying that i’m losing followers :O However, glad you’re back and I hope you enjoy the journey!
Thanks!
Still need to do Grand Canyon and Northern Lights on your list. I love lists. Lists equal dreams.
Lists make everything seem possible! They help you do so much more! Thanks fellow list lover ?
You are right – travel does change your perspective. When you see how/where others live, it widens your world view and opens the mind to be more accepting of before unfamiliar things.
Totally agree, you don’t even realise that it does this sometimes, until
You go travelling again!
So happy to see my hometown, Los Angeles, on your list! While some people might be put off by the traffic and often-gimmicky attractions downtown, I say that there’s plenty of things to do outside of the city center (beaches, art museums, restaurants) that merits a trip over. 🙂
Totally agree, I visited LA last summer and only headed into the centre of the city to get my flights, spent the rest of the time outside on the beaches and in the suburbs! Thanks!
Seeing the nothern lights is one of my biggest dreams!
It was too cloudy when I was in iceland to see them ?
Oh it’s such a shame ?
We were sad ?
Fantastic list!
Thanks, have you been on any?!
I have seen the northern lights in Iceland, it was an incredible I’ll cherish for ever!
Jealous! I will see them somewhere ?
My favorite is camping in the Grand Canyon and visiting those waterfalls. I’m officially in love with the idea.
Same! Thats the one I want to visit the most! Done all but that and Australia!
