If you’re a keen skier then you’ve more than likely been to your fair share of ski resorts. You’ve most likely experienced what it’s like to ski in each of the countries most famous for snow topped mountains and the resorts the sit at their feet. You’ve probably even been to your fair share of ski towns for some after-slope refreshments. However, as good as it is to see and experience different kinds of slopes and ski resorts, wouldn’t it be nice to find the one that is perfect for you? Wouldn’t it be great to be able to plant your flag firmly into the ground of a piste (metaphorically, of course) and decide that this is the one for you? If you’re in the process of finding your perfect piste paradise, then make sure to take heed of the three great pistes listed below before you come to your final decision!

Banff, Alberta, Canada

Banff National Park, located deep in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, is a place where skiers and young revellers alike flock to season in, season out. The abundance of snow covered mountains in this beautiful part of the world means that skiing here never need be the same two days running. So, if mixing it up, as you tear it up, is for you, then make sure you consider Banff when it comes to choosing your perfect piste. If you love to relax and unwind after your skiing session with a drink as cold as the snow you just tore up, then Banff is certainly for you. However be warned that a visit to Banff, no matter what time of the year you visit, will mean you will be surrounded by tourists. And you should also know that nothing comes cheap in this tourist hotspot. Well, they don’t call it ‘Beautiful And Never For Free’ for nothing.

Sierra Nevada, Province of Granada, Spain

Yes, Spain, despite its hot climate, boasts a host of ski resorts. However, few are better than those found in the mountainous Sierra Nevada region of Granada. Specifically, few are better than the ski resort village of Pradollano. If heights are your thing, then this is certainly the perfect piste for you as it reaches an altitude of more than 3,300 meters. What’s more, there are a number of beautiful villages nearby from which to set up your base. Competa, a village that sits at the foot of the snowcapped mountains of the Sierra, is one such place. To enjoy a full and worthwhile day of skiing in the Sierra Nevada region when leaving from this village, however, you must leave as early as possible in the morning, and return there as late as possible in the evening. So, if travelling is not your thing then maybe it’s best to steer clear of this part of the world. But if you don’t mind a bit of travelling, then why not make the move a little more permanent and take a look at Competa Property? They would assist you with all of your property needs when it comes to setting up a more permanent base in this beautiful part of the world.

Alpe d’Huez, France

Located in the Fench Alps in Southeastern France, Alp d’Huez offers skiing for all abilities across its 239km of joined up pistes!  The region is split into ‘Quartiers’, Quartier des Vieil Alpe is the most traditional of these and has kept many original buildings so you can experience the true feel of a mountain village. The accommodation offered varies widely and you can choose to rent Apartments, Chalets, or a room in a luxury hotel, all serving different needs! whilst skiing you can reach the highest point on the pistes which is Pic Blanc at 3,300m which offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The area has been given the nickname ‘The Island of the Sun’ due to its reputation for its sunshine on the slopes! There’s nothing better than skiing in the sun, just make sure you take your goggles and sun cream, you CAN get a sunburnt from skiing 😉

There are, of course, many more ski resorts than the ones mentioned above that are dotted all across the world. But just because I haven’t managed to fit them into this short article, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t fit them into your skiing plans. For instance, as you can find out in another post of mine, Lake Tahoe in Nevada/California USA, is a must-visit skiing resort during the winter. So, get out there and get finding the perfect piste paradise to suit your skiing needs. Just don’t forget to pack your thermals!
